Dialogue & Alliance: World Summit 2020: Interfaith Perspectives on Peace

New York, USA—The 2020 summer issue of Dialogue & Alliance, a journal of UPF, is now available. The theme of this issue is “World Summit 2020: Interfaith Perspectives on Peace.”
We are pleased to feature in this issue of Dialogue and Alliance a set of essays based on presentations delivered during the World Summit 2020, organized by the Universal Peace Federation on February 3-8, 2020 in Seoul, Korea. A summary report on the World Summit 2020 is included in the issue, along with the declaration signed by the more than 10,000 participants from 170 countries and representing diverse fields of government, religion, civil society, academia, the business sector, the media, women and youth. Each of the primary associations of UPF convened their own sessions. These included the International Summit Council for Peace (ISCP), the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP), the International Media Association (IMAP), the International Association of Academicians for Peace (IAAP), the International Association for Peace and Economic Development (IAED) and, last but not least, and featured in this issue, the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD). The IAPD program at the World Summit also included presentations from members of the World Clergy Leadership Conference (WCLC).
Participants in the IAPD session were representative of the many religious traditions that exist and thrive within our human family and our focus was promoting dialogue, mutual understanding and respect, and cooperation. In line with the overall theme of the World Summit, panelists placed emphasis on interdependence, mutual prosperity, and universal values, noting the unique and essential role that faith-based organizations, religious leaders, interfaith associations and believers of all faiths have in building a world of lasting peace. The essays included are generally brief, owing to the limited time given to each speaker individually, in order to accommodate as many voices as possible. We trust you will benefit and be enriched from your study of these statements.
The issue concludes with two articles by scholars of religion, with Ambrose Mong’s discussion of the model of “forgiveness and reconciliation in North Ireland” and David Oughton’s essay on the relevance of faith-based organizations to the establishment of a democratic world federation. Both topics are very relevant to the conversations that took place in Seoul during World Summit 2020.
