Nigerians in West Africa Invited to a Conference in Benin

Cotonou, Benin - As part of efforts to mobilize Nigerians in Diaspora to join the growing network of Ambassadors for Peace to contribute to ongoing efforts to build a peaceful Nigeria, UPF-Nigeria under the guidance of the UPF-West Africa president is convening a special conference of Nigerian Ambassadors for Peace in West Africa on the topic of “Peace, Security and Human Development in Nigeria” on June 26-27, 2014 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

A highly selective group of Nigerians and other special delegates from around West Africa are being invited to attend the conference to discuss emerging challenges facing Nigeria in the areas of peacebuilding, security and human development. Expected participants to be in attendance include representatives of governmental and non-governmental agencies as well as officials and heads of key institutions, women and youth leaders. The Honorable Minister of the Interior, Amb. Chief Abah Moro, has graciously agreed to serve as the special guest of honor, and Nigerians in Benin, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and other West African nations are being invited to attend.

Being aware of the urgent need for innovative vision and bold leadership in order to resolve the critical issues of our time, the conference will bring together committed Nigerian Ambassadors for Peace and other stakeholders to discuss the following:

- Peace Building in Nigeria and West Africa
-  Insecurity in Nigeria and West Africa
- Human Development in Nigeria and West Africa
- Interreligious Harmony and Intercultural Dialogue in Nigeria and West Africa
- Strengthening ECOWAS (the Economic Community of West African States) through the Unity of Nigeria and Integration of West Africa

It is hoped that this event will contribute to efforts to inspire Ambassadors for Peace with the UPF vision for peace.
