Address to World Summit
February 11-13, 2022
Esteemed leaders from all faiths, nations and backgrounds. I want to congratulate all of you for contributing to the cause of the Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula.
Thank you for your continual stellar leadership, Dr. Yoon Young-ho, as the director of the Universal Peace Federation World Summit 2022.
As we discuss the importance of Security and Religious Freedom today, it is my heartfelt wish and deep conviction that every human should have the most basic right of religious liberty. As President Trump would often say: “Our rights do not come from government, they come from God.” It was with that spirit and belief as Advisor to President Trump that I led the White House Faith and Opportunity Initiative which established an office or liaison in every Cabinet agency and worked hard to make sure that people of all faiths had a voice in their government.
Under President Trump we brought Andrew Brunson home from a prison in Turkey, confronted China on religious persecutions, and sanctioned the communists and socialists in Cuba and Venezuela on behalf of religious freedom.
With Secretary Pompeo, the State Department held the largest human rights event in history several years in a row in which we hosted multiple survivors of religious persecution in the Oval Office, including those from North Korea.
President Trump was the first United States president to host a meeting at the United Nations on protecting religious freedom around the world where he explicitly called upon the nations of the world to end religious persecution. We followed up on that event with an Executive Order on Advancing International Religious Freedom that solidifies America’s own commitment to this critical issue, by naming it as a foreign policy priority of the United States and promising that we will respect and vigorously promote this freedom.
We protected religious freedom worldwide by increasing funding for programs that aid persecuted religious communities. Additionally, we increased funding to protect religious sites and relics.
President Trump made possible a new plan for peace on the Korean Peninsula through North Korea policies that are unprecedented in U.S. history.
It is this deep conviction of standing for freedom of religion that has driven my life work of 38 years in ministry.
I want to honor and encourage Mother Moon for her great work as a spiritual leader who loves the Lord and seeks to bring and comfort God’s Heart in all the conflict areas of the world. Mother Moon, your faith and courage are very moving, especially having passed through many trials, persecutions and misunderstandings.
We know that peace can only be fully achieved with faith. You and your late husband, Rev. Moon, have led a life of unwavering faith and never vacillated in your commitment to achieving peace through Jesus’ fundamental teaching to “Love your enemies.” This is one of the greatest secrets to achieving peace.
You are the epitome of Matthew, chapter 5, specifically verse 9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.” Speaking to His disciples, Jesus expounded on the reality of discipleship lived in the presence and power of the kingdom of God but within the everyday world. “Blessed” is more than a temporary or circumstantial feeling of happiness; this is a state of well-being in relationship to God. “Blessed are the peacemakers” (used only here in Matt. 5:9) denotes one who bravely declares God’s terms that makes someone whole. Those who promote God’s “shalom,” total well-being both personally and communally, will receive the ultimate reward of being called “sons of God” as they reflect the character of their heavenly Father.
A world of peace will not come from human-centered thinking or a carnal mind, Romans 8:6,7 reminds us, “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God.”
A world of peace will come from a mind and heart that are connected, surrendered and submitted to the Spirit of God. We are admonished in 1 Peter 3:8-10: “Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.”
As Mother Moon has said: “It is our responsibility as people of this age as we stand united to correct things and return the world to its original state.”
