J. Lim: Address to World Summit 2022, Opening Ceremony

Address to World Summit
February 11-13, 2022

Greetings to you all. I am Korean lawmaker Lim Jong-Seong. Nice to meet you all.

With 57 countries present here, I would like to express my congratulations on the opening of the Summit for Peace on the Korean Peninsula. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen for his welcoming speech. This conference is taking place at the Korean National Assembly where 35 members of the National Assembly are participating in it with us. I would like to thank all of them.

I would like to express my gratitude to all the distinguished guests—former U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich; former U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican Callista Gingrich; and Tom McDevitt, chairman of the Washington Times—for visiting the National Assembly despite the pandemic situation.

I would also like to also express my gratitude to Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, who joined us in this meaningful event for establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula and to address global issues such as the global crisis, with the hope that we can cooperate together. In particular, I would like to ask U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich about H.R. 3446, the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act, which is now pending. It was suggested by U.S. congressman Brad Sherman and 35 representatives have signed the bill so far, and hopefully it could actually be passed.

There are four ideas for restoring peace and ending the Korean War, including signing of a peace agreement, forming liaison offices of North Korea and the U.S. in the respective capitals of each country, and reuniting separated families of the two Koreas. Hopefully the bill will pass in the U.S. Congress. For peace on the Korean Peninsula, I would like to extend my gratitude to all of you for your participation.
