N. Labidi: Address to Summit 2022, Session I

Address to Summit 2022 and Leadership Conference,
Seoul, Korea, August 11-15, 2022

Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, your honor Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, Co-Founder of the Universal Peace Federation. Thank you for your invitation, thank you for the warm welcome. You, together with your late husband, Rev. Sun Myung Moon—the father and mother of universal peace, as you are affectionately called—“dare to dream of a united human family in peace and centered on God.” It is your dream, a shared dream. My thanks to Mr. Jacques Marion, and to Ms. Brigitte Wada of the Women’s Federation for World Peace.

I come from a small country, Tunisia, which has been in existence for three millennia. Aristotle says that Carthage is the first republic endowed with a constitution and a democracy. The three monotheistic religions cohabit in harmony. On August 13 we will celebrate the 66th anniversary of the Code of Personal Status promulgated in 1956 which abolished polygamy and reorganized the relations within the family. In 2014 it was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

I am delighted with the triangular cooperation between Tunisia, Africa and South Korea, a partnership that continues to strengthen.

Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, there is no endless conflict because wisdom always wins. I remain convinced that the two sisters momentarily separated, South Korea and North Korea, will eventually meet again and break down the ice wall. They have deep roots, a common cultural history.

On both sides of the two borders, disunited families dream only of meeting each other and rebuilding a better future, healing wounds and making a peninsula flourish with many colors.

Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to remind you of UN Resolution 1325 of 2002 on Women, Peace and Security and the role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts. We are called upon to develop peace diplomacy for women. Also, UN Resolution 2250 of 2015, which is on the participation of youth in peace.

There is no peace and respect for human rights without early childhood education. We already have, in the African Union strategy of 2063, a good example.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on the Summit 2022 Declaration and propose that it be translated into an action plan based on five achievable and measurable points.

Honorable guests, thank you for your attention.
