Address to Summit 2022 and Leadership Conference,
Seoul, Korea, August 11-15, 2022
Distinguished religious and spiritual leaders, participants, welcome and thank you for being here.
A few weeks ago, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Secretary-General António Guterres said, “Today, humanity is just one misunderstanding, one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation,”
He mentioned conflicts and human rights violations as part of the main reasons that caused him to deliver such a dreadful warning.
For many decades the world was operating according to the rule of war. After the birth of the UN, we operated according to the rule of law. Now, humanity has reached a state when it needs to give priority to the common good that transcends nations. Every country’s governmental institutions, and non-governmental organizations also need to participate in the effort to realize spiritual awakening that can lead to a life of living for the sake of the other in the family, community, society, nation and ultimately, the world.
UPF maintains that any successful strategy for peace and development must take into account the spiritual dimension of our human identity, experience, and interactions.
John Maxwell, the American author, said, “A leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”
Mother Moon is this kind of leader. Dr. Moon founded the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD).
IAPD harnesses the goodwill of religions and spirituality to play a unique and essential role in bringing about a world of lasting peace, a world in which people of all world views are called to live together in mutual respect, harmony, and cooperation; a world that the founders of UPF call, Heavenly Parent’s Holy Community.
Recently, Pope Francis said, “Going on mission means giving the best of ourselves and God’s gifts.” Mother Moon is standing at the forefront of a spiritual revolution for a culture of heart and filial love. Such a revolution will usher us in a world of lasting peace and happiness.
Let us join the peaceful revolution of heart and spirituality.
