30 Ambassadors for Peace Appointed at the UN World Science Day for Peace and Development Forum

Lima, Peru—More than 30 Ambassadors for Peace were appointed on November 24, 2022 at the United Nations World Science Day for Peace and Development Forum. This important event was sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF-Peru) and the International Association of Academics for Peace (IAAP-Peru).
UPF-Peru headquarters brought together outstanding leaders and Ambassadors for Peace, including Eng. Christian Contreras, the secretary general of IAAP-Peru, Dr. Juan Bautista Bardelli Lartirigoyen, magistrate of the Constitutional Court; Forestry Engineer Carla Zuñiga Loayza, vice president of UPF-Peru; and Gen. Héctor Jhon Caro, vice president of UPF-Peru. Dr. Trevor Jones, executive president of UPF-Peru, gave the audience an overview of the initiatives of UPF and IAAP in favor of peace and the sustainable development of all peoples in his opening remarks.
“We need to include science, innovation and technology within our country’s agenda, with a framework that allows us to make more efficient use of the resources we have and achieve harmony between society and nature,” said Eng. Christian Contreras, who called on the audience to continue working for peace.
For his part, Dr. Juan Bautista Bardelli Lartirigoyen provided a detailed historical overview of the Constitutional Court in Peru and the role it plays in defending rights and maintaining peace from its foundation until the present day.
“People can do a lot for the environment. We must take action for regeneration, respecting nature,” said Eng. Carla Zuñiga, who gave an extensive presentation on the importance of protecting the environment.
For his part, Gen. Héctor Jhon Caro gave a motivational speech and called on the audience to promote peace and forgiveness, from ourselves to those around us: “Peace is achieved with knowledge, with humility. Peace is achieved with respect for others.”
As part of the celebration, Dr. Trevor Jones gave an incorporation speech to the new ambassadors for peace, welcoming them to the organization. Likewise, he congratulated the interest of the new Ambassadors for Peace in joining UPF-Peru and supporting the organization’s efforts to help those most in need.
The appointment ceremony for the new Ambassadors for Peace was conducted by the secretary general of UPF-Peru, Mr. Jaime Fernández, who, together with Gen. Héctor Jhon Caro, gave the certificates to the new Ambassadors for Peace. More than 30 new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed, including district officials, academics, religious leaders, businessmen and civil society leaders, who ratified their commitment to promoting peace initiatives and carrying out social service tasks in favor of those most in need. Likewise, certificates of recognition were given to the panellists and guests at the table of honor.
The event included musical presentations by the singer-songwriter César Villalobos (Inca Son) and the soprano Alianda Valenzuela (Inti Tika – Flor del Sol). The meeting ended with remarks by Mr. Jaime Fernández acknowledging the new appointees and closing remarks by Eng. Christian Contreras.
