Address to Peace Summit 2023
May 2-5, 2023
Namaste. Excellencies, delegates from all over the world, ladies and gentlemen, it brings me joy and honor to be part of this Peace Summit. I would like to personally thank Honorable Ek Nath Dakal for extending this kind invitation to me. The Universal Peace Federation co-founded by Mother Moon is dedicated to advancing world peace and shared prosperity. I believe in the universal principles of peace.
A nation without rules and regulations is lawless and lawless governance breeds chaos. Thus, without laws and rules, we cannot dream of a peaceful and prosperous nation.
After a ten-year domestic conflict, Nepal wanted to rebuild itself through a peace process. We wanted to initiate this process as a post-conflict peace rehabilitation. In this direction, we drafted and promulgated a new constitution, a new set of laws. Peacefully removing monarchy that was more than 200 years old is a huge achievement for Nepal and Nepal’s people. Although it took intense debates and a longer than anticipated time, the drafting process of a new constitution by an elected Constituent Assembly was overall inclusive and peaceful, and thus is an important milestone of Nepal’s federal system of governance. Equally important was Nepal’s leadership and ownership of the process.
The constitution of a nation is its heart and soul. It is the supreme law of the land. Based on a set of prescribed laws, social order can prevail, contracts can be honored, and a nation can exist and flourish. The rule of law is the cornerstone of a society that is free and prosperous. Rule of law is also the basis and necessary factor for public trust and public integrity. Living by the rule of law helps in constraining arbitrary action, maximizing social coordination and increasing economic wealth. The fundamental objective of Nepal’s foreign policy is to enhance the dignity of our motherland by safeguarding her sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
Through our rule-based society, we can prioritize economic development and equitably distribute resources for our citizens. Nepal is determined to contribute to social harmony, regional security and global peace.
In closing, I would like to thank Korea for its hospitality. Additionally, may I extend an invitation to its government and business community to further strengthen our historical and friendly ties. A special salute to UPF for the call to create an Asia Pacific Union and the launching of the Elders Roundtable.
I commend the UPF organizers for their relentless pursuit to foster goodwill among nations and their numerous peace activities carried on in all corners of the world. Finally, and most importantly, I congratulate the UPF co-founders, Father and Mother Moon, for their birthday celebrations and wish Mother Moon good health and longevity. And last, I would like to invite you to Nepal, the nation of Mount Everest and the birthplace of Buddha to attain peace. Thank you and you all are invited, as a guest of our Right Honorable Chairperson, to visit Nepal. So, welcome to Nepal.
