Address to World Summit
February 11-13, 2022
Note: World leaders were invited to World Summit 2022 but due to air travel restrictions, participated by submitting a video message. The following text is a transcription of the recording.
We would like to take this rare opportunity to send our deepest appreciation for the convening of the World Summit 2022 which seeks to, among other things, address the important theme of reconciliation and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Zambia further sends deep appreciation to our UPF founder and host, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, for her dedication and resolved focus on finding a real and lasting solution to the Korean Peninsula crisis. We further appreciate the co-chairs, H.E. Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary General of the United Nations.
Never in the history of our world has mankind faced such strained relations and pandemics as today. War drums are sounding louder and louder between Russia and Ukraine, with the potential of drawing in the United States of America and most European nations. This could have repercussions that could affect the security of the entire globe. Here in Africa, we have experienced an unprecedented number of military coups, six of them in the last 18 months. The global COVID-19 pandemic continues to unravel economies around the world. There are conflicts between nations, climate change, poverty and family breakdown. And the list goes on. This dark cloud makes the fight for world peace even more significant at this point.
The significance of pursuing peace on the Korean Peninsula is of great importance at a fragile moment in world history. The realization of peace on the Korean Peninsula shall give hope that peace can be achieved anywhere and everywhere. The steps that have been taken by Mother Moon and the UPF in resolving the Korean Peninsula problem can be applied in other conflict centers of the world. The Korean Peninsula remains vulnerable to the competitive approach of superpowers in dealing with global power play.
We wish, therefore, to submit that applying Track II approaches to peace needs to involve civil society, trade and commerce, humanitarian relief, interfaith dialogue, cultural exchange and tourism. Through this multilateral approach to peace, we shall secure for ourselves not only the peace we crave for on the Korean Peninsula but global peace.
May God guide and inspire all the participants to go an extra mile in the search for lasting peace.
