Brazzaville, Congo—Over 120 participants joined UPF-Congo Brazzaville to celebrate Africa Day on June 8, 2018, at the Ministry of Justice. In addition to honoring the UN’s founding of Africa Day 55 years ago on the occasion of the creation of the Organization for African Unity, the event offered the occasion to honor two new Ambassadors for Peace and to receive a report of UPF’s first World Africa Summit in Dakar, Senegal, in January 2018. The conference carried the overall theme “New Africa: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity, and Universal Values.”
Dr. Julien Moufonda, vice chairman of UPF, read the UN’s commentary for this year’s Africa Day. Following a video of the Dakar summit meeting, Mr. Clement Tsana, UPF secretary general, gave a message about UPF that included a report about the summit conference. Rev. Norbert Ndielle, director of Congo Brazzaville’s chapter of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, then explained UPF’s principles of peace.
Two ambassadors to Congo Brazzaville received Ambassador for Peace awards, which were conferred by the chairman of UPF-Congo Brazzaville, Mr. Maurice Nguesso, who is the elder brother of the country’s head of state, Denis Sassou Nguesso. The day’s honorees were Amb. Kane Niang, representing Senegal, and Amb. Therese Ndiri Yoman of Ivory Coast.
The guests, representing a variety of countries in Africa and several faith traditions, including Christianity and Islam, expressed gratitude to learn more of the Africa Summit and to participate in Africa Day.
