Planning Meeting:  To inspire community-wide ownership of International Day of Peace

Date: September 15th, Monday meeting at Massena House 7pm

Next Meeting:  September 22rd Monday at Massena House 7pm

General Notes:

v  Small community doing big things.

v  We are about substance over statistics.

v   We looking to inspire the next Gandhi

v   Explanation of what is on the www.upf.org/un/idp web page.

v  Crunch time, now our job is putting it out there.

 

As you have noticed some activities have expanded, others eliminated, and others have morphed to something completely different.

  • Sharing the story of the International Day of Peace  (Gavin - Team Leader)
    • Give Away IDP DVD http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=2FmEIP46B-E (Ichinori – Team Leader)
        • A)  Churches - Gavin
        • B) Public Schools (one for each classroom) Ichinori, Henry to meet school principal on 9/10
          • Ichinori went to schools - not sure what will be shown and how many fliers put up.
          • Heylan taking care of morning broadcast
          • Mrs. Yasutake meeting with the Germantown principal tomorrow - Abdou in Kingston schools

        • C) Private Schools (?), Colleges (?)
        • D) Gavin - ask Joe R. to design a cover for the dvds
        • E) Luis Ottery, Principal of Ethical Culture Fieldston School in the Bronx requested 16, 3 minute videos and a full length video.
        • Instead of using a flyer we will use two flyers 1) Peace Sanctuary (Gillian), and Barrytown Gazette (Henry)
        • Print 9/15 and start distributing 9/17
        • Movie & Videos had to be reconfigured to correct format 
  • Peace Vigil – As part of Sunday Service, possibility of the children coming back from Sunday school to take part, with all mothers

  • Peace Concert (Cecilia responsible for performers)
    • Admission – canned food, or clothing to benefit Queens Gallery, Food Kitchen in Kingston
    • Locations – UTS Chapel
    • Performers - Cecilia recruited Hope Machine, Gavin recruited Seiko Lee?

§  Use acoustic  system in chapel, Gavin asked Bard College Audio operator to assist

  • Kite Flying for Peace (Henry  - Team Leader)
    • UTS east field
    • Children bring their kites
    • We provide snacks and drinks ($75-$100)
    • Prizes purchased
    • Contests and awards .... highest flying, best homemade kite, smallest kite
    • Will try to get local small hot air balloon maker to give a demonstration
  • Labyrinth and peace ceremony (Gillian - Team Leader)
    • Flyer completed
    • Tony bringing 4 tables, Dorothy getting 50 chairs, plates & utensils, Marty bringing two tents.
    • Marty will pick up flags, Gavin buying 100 plastic sleeves and drop at Gillian’s

    • Hardscrabble table with Henry, who ever can, will help of Saturday 9/20
  • Professional Filmmaker
    • Professional filmmaker Victor Gallo has agreed to come up from NYC and with professional equipment to document the event.
    • Our plan is to develop two “YouTube” videos and a DVD.
