Overflow Audience at Peace Festival in Rizal

The 12,000-person audience, composed mostly of young people, educators, religious leaders, and government officials, shook the grounds of the Ynares Center in Antipolo City during the Global Peace Festival Main Event in the Province of Rizal, near Manila, on November 8, 2008.

Chaired by Rizal Governor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares III and Antipolo City Mayor Victor Sumulong, the GPF drew a crowd of thousands to celebrate “One Family Under God.” Outside the stadium, LCD screens were put up to accommodate the bigger crowd who still wanted to witness the GPF Main Event and the Peace Concert.

Congressman Gilbert Remula delivered the keynote speech on behalf of Senate President Manny Villar, the National Chair of the Global Peace Festival--Philippines 2008. GPF Rizal was made memorable with the strong support of the local government units and the partners who became owners of the vision of the Global Peace Festival.

The International Leadership Conference and International Youth Summit held before the main event were also well attended by the leaders in academia and the local government officials of Rizal.

At the onset of the GPF, the government of Rizal also put up 500 kiosks within the City of Antipolo with the GPF banners on them.

This festival in Rizal is one of 12 planned for the Philippines during 2008, building on the success of the Global Peace Festival in Mindanao in September.
