Honoring a Legacy of Peace in Tbilisi, Georgia

Tbilisi, Georgia - A Legacy of Peace ceremony honored well-known peacemakers who recently passed away, in the world and in Georgia.
UPF-Georgia representative Vitaly Maximov gave a presentation on the meaning of the ceremony and introduced the honorees:
The four international honorees were: Hédi Annabi, former Head of the UN Mission to Haiti; Kim Dae Jung, former President of South Korea; Rodrigo Carazo, former President of Costa Rica; and Gen. Alexander Haig, former US Army General, Secretary of State, and NATO Commander.
The Georgian honorees were: Mr. Zhiuli Shartava, a Georgian politician and former Head of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia; the artist couple Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili, People's Artists of the USSR; and another couple, Mr. Kote Maharadze, Soviet sports commentator and actor, and his wife Sofiko Chiaureli, People’s Actress of the USSR.
Russian Ambassador for Peace Eduard Yakovlev, former President of the International Super-marathon Association, was also honored for giving his life in Georgia while participating in a UPF peace program in 2008.
