Legacy of Peace Commemorated in Helsinki

Helsinki, Finland - UPF-Finland honored three distinguished Finnish individuals in addition to the five international figures at the Legacy of Peace event in Helsinki on June 6. H.E. Mr. Harry Purwanto, Ambassador of Indonesia to Finland, attended the event and acknowledged the respect that the late president of Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid, showed to UPF Founder Rev. Sun Myung Moon.
The Finnish people honored in the ceremony were:
- Gen. Adolf Erik Ehrnrooth - When he found out that many nationalist youth cited him as an idol, he said that in his own youth he might have held nationalistic views but Finland's path was now in the European Union and people's perspectives should transcend their nation.
- Rev. Tarmo Nuotio – Lutheran pastor; founder of the Helsinki Cathedral Boys' Choir; human rights activist
- Jyri Jaakkola - Recently shot by paramilitary troops in Mexico in his efforts to support the rights of indigenous tribes in Mexico
