In Memoriam: Mrs. Fatwa El Masri
Wednesday, October 1, 2008
News of the passing of UPF Lebanon's Ambassador for Peace Mrs. Fatwa El Masri on October 1, 2008, saddened those in the Universal Peace Federation who knew her and her peace-loving family.
Mrs. El Masri was the wife of one of Lebanon's senior leaders of the Druze faith, Sheikh Salman El Masri. Both husband and wife had participated actively in UPF programs in Lebanon, hosting international UPF delegates at their Druze community center during UPF's 4th world peace tour in 2006.
Mrs. El Masri's active concern for the role of women led to her participation in the conference on peace in the Middle East organized by the Women's Federation for World Peace in Athens in 2005. Mrs. El Masri was an avid, lifelong student of spiritual truth and shared her insights at international conferences.
