In Memoriam: Pradit Chareonthaitawee

Bangkok, Thailand: UPF-Thailand announces with regret the passing on September 19 of Professor Pradit Chareonthaitawee (1932-2010), Ambassador for Peace, President of UPF-Thailand, and one of the nation’s most prominent public citizens, after a lengthy illness.
An accomplished surgeon, anesthesiologist, and physician, he was a member of the British Royal College of Surgeons and many medical councils and boards in his native Thailand, where he also served the Thai Royal household. For many years he served as a professor at the Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok and later became the President of Mahidol University. From 2001 to 2009, he served as the Commissioner of the Thailand Human Rights Commission.
Memorial services will be held September 29, jointly hosted by the Universal Peace Federation and the National Human Rights Commission.
