Major General Silas Paul Mayunga

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania - Major General Silas Paul Mayunga of Tanzania passed to the spirit world on August 6. A former High Commissioner for Tanzania in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo, he was an active Ambassador for Peace.

He was one of the heroes of the 1979-80 war against the Ugandan forces who invaded Tanzania. In the photo, he is holding a gift from the Ugandan government in appreciation for the help of Tanzania in ousting Idi Amin. President Jakaya Kikwete described Gen. Mayunga as a brave, patriotic soldier whose death had robbed the nation of a highly dependable adviser on national defence and security.

Gen. Mayunga was in Delhi, India, receiving medical treatment when he passed away at age 71. He and his wife Juliana participated in the World Peace Marriage Blessing held Lagos, Nigeria in 1997.
