Argentina-2016-09-21-UPF-Argentina Celebrates International Day of Peace in Lanús

Lanús, Argentina—On September 21, 2016, UPF-Argentina participated in the “Meeting for Peace,” organized by the Fundación Proyecto de Vida a las Naciones, in Lanús, a city in Buenos Aires province, to celebrate the International Day of Peace.

Speeches were given, an olive tree watering ceremony took place, interfaith prayers were offered, and a peace declaration, supporting the International Day of Peace, was signed by the participants, at the event. Pastor Rubén Contreras and his wife Laura and other local Ambassadors for Peace, coordinated the program, which was held at Plaza Villa Obrera. In addition, Mr. Eduardo Corales, representing UPF, shared a reflection at the event. Among the attendees were faith leaders, NGO and community representatives, including members of the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles (CARP).

In the morning, Mr. Manuel Bireni, a new Ambassador for Peace, organized a similar event at a trade center in Zárate in Buenos Aires province. Representatives of different organizations gave brief speeches, signed a declaration, and watered an olive tree to symbolize a commitment to life and peace. Mr. Bireni, who works in the field of human rights in Zárate, was appointed as an Ambassador for Peace on September 14, 2016 at an event UPF held in Lanús.
