Buenos Aires, Argentina—UPF-Argentina’s Ambassadors Cycle (1) program hosted a talk on “The Art of Intercultural Relations: The Basis of Dialogue for Peace” at the Peace Embassy in Buenos Aires on October 18, 2017.
The talk was given by Ambassador for Peace Mr. Jorge Tuero (2), who is an expert on the impact of cultures on global business and the author of “La nueva ruta de la seda” (“The New Silk Road”), a book about his experiences working in and knowledge about China. Mr. Tuero began by speaking about the importance of knowing one another. He emphasized developing interpersonal relationships and relationships with peoples and, in this context, discussed different aspects of Chinese culture, from Chinese customs and standards of behavior to values. He examined the power of dialogue and discouraged arrogance, so as to avoid its unpleasant consequences. He said, “In order to attain peace, humanity should not only wish for it, but also work intensively [for it],” and quoted the Latin phrase, “res, non verba” (“actions speak louder than words”).
After the talk, some attendees asked questions and shared their thoughts. The event concluded with a recitation by the poet and singer Mr. Alfredo Torres.
