UPF-Seychelles Convenes General Meeting

Mahé, Seychelles—UPF-Seychelles hosted its first Annual General Meeting at the Guy Morel Institute on February 15, 2020. The meeting was aimed at seeking more members and bringing forth the awareness of “building a national goal of peace.”
UPF-Seychelles is an independent, voluntary and nonprofit organization. Its vision is to sensitize the general public in building a national goal of peace in which every Seychellois can live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and prosperity. It is registered with the Registrar of Association as prescribed by the laws of the Republic of Seychelles.
Around 20 members and affiliates attended the meeting, of which 7 Executive Committee members were elected as follows: Chairperson – Mr. Roger Alphonse; Vice-Chairperson – Ms. Anna Faerber; Secretary – Mrs. Suganda Betioux; Treasurer – Mr. Jacob Terence Madeleine; Secretary General – Mrs. Rosemary Elizabeth. Two at-large members were elected: Ms. Diana Benoit and Mr. Wilven Alcindor. The Executive Committee took a group photo.
The Annual General Meeting 2020 started with an opening prayer by the Secretary, Mrs. Suganda Betioux, after the MC (Vice-Chair – Anna Faerber) had welcomed the invited guests and members.
The chairperson opened by highlighting the importance of UPF-Seychelles and its affiliated parent organization, UPF-International and explaining that UPF provides a platform for people of diverse faiths to contribute their wisdom, intelligence and experiences and work effectively to promote global peace.
Ms. Diana Benoit embraced the motive and objectives of UPF-Seychelles and outlined the activities conducted by UPF-Seychelles over the two-year period of 2018–2019. Thereafter, Treasurer Jacob Terence Madeleine gave a financial account of the association. This was followed by the presentation of the Constitution of UPF-Seychelles by the chairperson.
Vice-Chair Anna Faerber reflected on the need to acquire additional members and touched on the calendar of activities of UPF-Seychelles for the year 2020. They will include character education workshops, general meetings, workshops to recruit more members, visits to low-income families and the annual Peace Day festival which will be conducted on September 21, 2020.
Thereafter, there was a time for questions whereby the members and affiliates sought further clarifications on the Constitution and UPF-Seychelles in general before approving the proposed Constitution. The meeting moved to the election of the Executive Committee.
The AGM concluded with closing remarks by the secretary general, Mrs. Rosemary Elizabeth, who asked members to seek for more members. She also reiterated that UPF-Seychelles is mandated to promote peace, love, unity, happiness and good values. UPF-Seychelles intends to work effectively alongside representatives of government, businesses, civil society and the community in general to promote and enhance peace within our small island state.
The AGM was adjourned around midday and the members and affiliates present were treated to refreshments.
