North America—ILC2021 (June 24-29, 2021), webcast worldwide, was the first of three to be held this summer highlighting the thinking of leading experts on the Korean Peninsula, Northeast Asia and stakeholder parties, including policy institute scholars, current and retired diplomats and members of the military, as well as current and former heads of state, parliamentarians and government ministers. Panelists discussed policies, geopolitical interests and their recommendations for steps that can be taken toward a peaceful resolution of the Korean conflict.
This conference was sponsored by Universal Peace Federation with branding and logistics support from The Washington Times Foundation. We co-produced Sessions 2 and 9 in collaboration with Universal Peace Federation Europe/Middle East. Acting cooperatively with Europe to gather speakers for those sessions added depth, diversity and richness to the presentations.
The work of Universal Peace Federation and its co-sponsors is to create venues for discussions that keep the spotlight on the most able opinion leaders and constructive ideas for easing tensions and mitigating the conflict on the Korean Peninsula – and ultimately establishing Think Tank 2022. While harboring no illusions about the bitterness of the divide between North and South Korea, we maintain confidence that resolution is ultimately possible.
