ILC2021 Asia Pacific, July 29: Session VII – Youth and Student Initiatives

Asia Pacific—The seventh session of the July 28-29 International Leadership Conference 2021 (ILC2021) for UPF’s Asia Pacific program, held on July 29, highlighted the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP), an affiliated organization. Six youth and student leaders spoke on the theme, "Toward Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula: Youth and Students Initiatives." In total, 4,693 people registered for the event and 304 joined it live via Zoom and thousands more did so through various social media platforms.

Mr. Ronnie Sodusta, president of the IAYSP- Asia Pacific 2, gave the opening remarks.

Speakers included Mr. Bjorn Noel DeNiese, Rotary Club of Gangtok Smart City, India; Mr. Ben Evans, president of the International Taekwondo Federation, New Zealand; Hon. Syed Ali Haider Gillani, member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, Pakistan; and Ms. Juhee Um, member of UniUs Project for Reunification, South Korea.

Hon. Gillani pointed out that the reunification of North and South Korea will boost each nation's economy and help people emerge from poverty. Ms. Um reminded the audience that every person can make a difference with their unique ideas and talents; that drops of water create a mighty ocean.

The session concluded with a performance by Mr. Piseth Sam from Cambodia, and closing remarks were given by Dr. Tang Kimsruy, president of IAYSP Asia Pacific 1. Ms. Kahee Dhakal, an AB development studies student at Ateneo de Manila University, served as the moderator.
