Dialogue & Alliance: Voices for Peace
Written by UPF International
New York, USA—The 2018 double issue of Dialogue & Alliance, a journal of UPF, is now available. The theme of this issue is “Voices for Peace.”
This Volume 32, 2018 double issue of Dialogue and Alliance contains essays that derive from two major conference programs organized by the Universal Peace Federation, as part of its International Leadership Conference (ILC) series. The first of the two ILCs was convened in Korea on November 9-14, 2017, and had two inter-related foci: first, the inauguration of a new interfaith initiative of UPF, known as the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD); and second, participants in the ILC, including the many religious leaders who represented the IAPD, joined a public rally on November 11, 2018 when 80,000 people gathered at one of South Korea’s World Cup football stadiums, dedicated to a call for peace and unification on the Korean peninsula. The second ILC was convened, also in Korea, on February 18-22, 2018.
The first set of articles which appear in this volume under the heading “Global Rally for Peace on the Korean Peninsula” were presentations delivered in the presence of 80,000 people. The next section, entitled, “Parliamentarians for Peace,” consists of seven articles by distinguished members of the UPF’s International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace, which UPF launched in 2016.
Our next section, “Interfaith Perspectives on Peace,” features twenty-five statements from distinguished religious leaders, interfaith activists, and representatives of faith-based organizations. There are a wide variety of perspectives from many of our world’s religious traditions. Amidst the great diversity of nationality, ethnicity, culture and religion, there are common themes and shared values that underscore the existence of common ground and universally shared aspirations for peace, aspirations that are advocated by all our world’s religions. And we conclude this issue with two essays in a section titled, “Scholarly Perspectives on Peace.”
