Peace Tour Inaugurates UPF in Russia
Friday, October 21, 2005
The inauguration of the Universal Peace Federation in Russia was held in a restored theatre on the outskirts of Moscow near a beautiful lake that was just opened and dedicated as the Region’s Peace Embassy in May of this year.
Although Father and Mother Moon had initially been granted permission to enter Russia, sadly their visas were later revoked, due to pressure from leaders within the Russian Orthodox Church who urged the government to not grant entry.
The hall was packed early and overflow rooms filled with parents and children. Some came on trains from Irkutsk in Western Siberia, a four-day journey each way. They were joined by people from Ekaterinaburg in the Urals, from St. Petersburg, and from all over.
UPF Secretary General Thomas Walsh delivered the Peace Message of the global tour in place of Father Moon.
The event included an invitation for couples to join in a world peace blessing toast of marriage rededication.
