Argentina—Three provincial Worship officers participated in the Second Discussion of the 2022 “Interreligious Dialogue and Good Practices” Series on August 15, 2022. It was organized by the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) and UPF-Argentina, along with Youth and Students for Peace (YSP) Argentina and was broadcasted on UPF-Argentina’s YouTube channel (1).

Marisol Décima Nieve, general director of Worship, La Rioja province; Fernando Zunino, manager of the Provincial Worship Register Area, San Luis province; and Claudio Armand, assistant director of Worship and NGOs, San Juan province, were guests from the Center Region. They spoke about their work and challenges in their respective jurisdictions. With empathy and dedication, they have valued the work of religious entities, the need to update legislation and to strengthen institutionality.

To begin, Emanuel Sayavedra, president of YSP-Argentina and secretary general of UPF-Argentina, made some comments on the 2022 Series objectives:

- To learn of and weigh the work done from the public sector to facilitate the development of activities of different creeds and religious freedom.

- To value good practices from the public sector and the different faith communities, with experiences of interreligious dialogue and cooperation in cities and provinces across the country.

- To serve as an educational place in interreligious and intercultural dialogue, promoting mutual respect, common good and sustainable development.

- To revalue the contribution of spirituality in being sensitive to and aiding our neighbor, recognizing every person’s dignity and their inalienable rights.

On the panel was also Ambassador for Peace Inderveer Kaur, IAPD-Argentina representative, who recalled India’s Independence Day, which holds a painful memory for the Sikh community, persecuted in the region since then.

When the presentations ended, there was a Q&A session, moderated by Ambassadors for Peace David Frol, IAPD-Argentina representative, and Susana Segovia, coordinator of the 2022 “Interreligious Dialogue and Good Practices” Series. Ambassador for Peace Graciela Páez Báez, IAPD-Argentina representative, extended an invitation to the Third Discussion which will have guests from the Northeast Region, in September.
