UPF Celebrates Teachers’ Day in India

New Delhi, India—In celebration of Teachers’ Day 2020 in India, UPF and the International Association of Academicians for Peace (IAAP) of India convened a “Peace Talks” webinar on September 5, whose theme was “Marking Teachers’ Day: Saluting the Role of Teachers in the COVID Era.” The event drew more than 383 participants: 83 of whom joined through Zoom and over 300 of whom joined through Facebook Live.
The welcoming and opening remarks were given by Rev. Dr. Clement Rajakumar, former vice principal of St. Stephen’s College of the University of Delhi.
Special remarks were delivered by three speakers: Hon. Bhubaneswar Kalita, a member of parliament and chairman of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP)-South Asia and India; Dr. Thomas Selover, president of the Professors World Peace Academy (PWPA) and international coordinator of the IAAP; and Dr. Venus G. Agustin, president of the International Peace Leadership College (IPLC), Philippines.
Other speakers were
- K.V. Rajan, former ambassador of India and chairman of UPF-India;
- Jagannath Patnaik, vice chancellor of ICFAI University Sikkim;
- S.P. Singh, vice chancellor of Royal Global University, Guwahati;
- S. Mangi Singh, head of the political science department at Manipur University,
- Girish Ram Kumar, department of Political Science at the University of Kerala; and
- Indhu Rebecca Verghese, a member of the teaching faculty at the Trivandrum International School.
Mr. Krishna Adhikari, secretary general of UPF-India, moderated the webinar and gave a short presentation introducing UPF. The event concluded with Mr. Nima Theeng Tamang, north east zonal coordinator of UPF-India, thanking the speakers and participants for taking part in the virtual event.
