Lebanon-2021-05-27-IAPD Event Brings Together Lebanese Faith Leaders

Beirut, Lebanon—Fourteen religious leaders participated in the conference titled "Toward a World of Lasting Peace: The Role of Religion in Peacebuilding."

UPF held the event together with its Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) on May 27, 2021, in the Hotel Lancaster-Tamar.

The participants represented Christian denominations, Sunni and Shia Islam, and the Druze religion.

Some of the religious leaders who participated in this conference:

Archimandrite Joseph Saghbini, who has attended several UPF-organized International Leadership Conferences in Korea. He is an Ambassador for Peace.

Father George Saliba (a bishop)

Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Dalal (a mufti from Idlib, Syria)

Sheikh Mohammed Abu Zaid, the head judge of the Sunna Court in Saida and also the assistant to the grand mufti of Lebanon. He has attended an International Leadership Conference in Korea and is also an Ambassador for Peace.

These clergy leaders have been very supportive of UPF-Lebanon and respect the UPF founders.

Umberto and Marilyn Angelucci, the UPF regional presidents for the Middle East, led all the participants in a special unison prayer for peace in the Middle East region.

Sarah Ahmed, the UPF regional vice president for the Middle East, was the emcee for the event. Sheikh Abu Zaid moderated the dialogue session of the clergy leaders.
