The war in Bosnia-Herzegovina was the most tragic war after the Second World War in Europe. Although the fighting may have stopped, the conflict has not been truly finished because there is no reconciliation yet. We have open borders and thus the opportunity is available for people to reconcile and reestablish good relations.
Today I am going to take you on a short, short journey of why Afghanistan is in such a fragile situation. Why do we have all the nations in the world involved in bringing peace to Afghanistan and yet we are still the killing field of the world today?
I fully support the vision initiated by Rev. Moon to restructure the United Nations by including the religious leaders of the world and by adopting a God-centered approach to world peace and security.
The UPF call of “One Family Under God” resonates with an ancient Indian philosophical assertion of Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, the whole world is one single family.
We have to go beyond our limited consciousness and bring God’s love onto our families, then stretch out our hand and heart to the east and west, north and south to help and educate one another, making the world into a better place for all of us, as One Family Under God.
I want to ask Ambassadors for Peace of the UPF to help make the Middle East a safer place to live. Ambassadors for Peace should work to build a global movement for peace for the sake of others.
For most people, social and political action shouldn’t be linked to religion. This seems to be very different in Africa or America, where politicians can freely affirm their religious convictions.
UPF is to become the blueprint of a new type of United Nations that unites the efforts of political, social, and religious leaders in order to solve the problems of the globe. This is a radical vision. Obviously, such a vision is necessary in our days in order to transform the world of conflicts, suffering, and poverty into a world of stable development and well being.
