S. Sanbar: A United States and United Nations Partnership

Speeches
Monday, August 25, 2008

The Preamble to the UN charter is similar to the US Constitution. I would claim that they are very basic US values. They are as well values of the international community. This is why there exists a very close relationship and why we are able to act together to achieve a joint purpose.

IRFF Discover True Friendship Service Tour: Peru

Lima, Peru - San Juan del Alto is a small, relatively young farming community of just over 3,000 residents, located in a remote part of the largely desert province of Arequipa in southern Peru. Its residents live simple lives, most without running water, sewage systems, or electricity. Many struggle to feed their families while working on land that belongs to others. In July of 2008, however, this community hosted young men and women from three continents who came to help improve village life while learning about the challenges faced by its residents.

Speeches
Saturday, August 09, 2008

We are living in a moment when there is a big devaluation of the family, or at least an intention to devalue the family. It is a time of uneasiness and excessive violence in many parts of Brazil. I think that peace and the status of the family are very important points for these days because not only Brazil but the world is facing a crisis in the area of family. A message that can bring trust and express the value of the family is the message that we need today.

Cattle Drive Touches the Hearts of Local Villagers..."Best UPF.org Article of 2008"

Asunción, Paraguay - "You're crazy." Not exactly the benediction we were looking for, but it seemed like those were always the first words we heard from people while organizing our "Cattle Drive for Peace and Unity," through the rugged outback of Paraguay. We were proposing to drive 150 cattle, all of them pregnant, a distance of 170 kilometers (106 miles) over hostile landscape and iffy roads

Celebrating the Volunteer Spirit in Paraguay

Asuncion, Paraguay - Thousands of schoolchildren in the Paraguayan capital have found a new passion this month: service to their city and pride in the difference their volunteer efforts can make. Wearing bright blue Global Peace Festival T-Shirts with the slogan "Asunción - my city" on the front and "One Family Under God" on the back, fifteen out of the seventy schools participating gathered this morning for a final clean up and celebration along Ave Projectada 21 in one of Asunción's poorer neighborhoods.

Teams of kids from the different school split up to cover the 21 mini parks located along the wide boulevard. Each park had its own character - one would be just a dirt football field, another a grass park, a third set up for volleyball. But all had similar problems --- small mountains of garbage, large and dangerous rocks and stones littered about, and unkempt and unclear pavements along a busy highway.
