The world transformation cycle is moving at very rapid pace. Social circumstances are also changing day by day. We usually call it development but in such a situation, man is trapped in a severe storm. Outwardly physical and economic progress is seen only when many resources and amenities are being amalgamated.
I find inspiration in a quote from the Gospel of St. Luke: “The Kingdom of Heaven is within you.” (Luke 17:21) The guidance here is that through meditation and prayer, you will understand the Creator’s purpose in life for you and you will be at peace with yourself. When there is peace within you, you will be at peace with others.
“The point I’m making here, and what I’ve also come to learn more about over the course of this conference, is the absolute necessity to address and combat extremist ideology from its very inception.”
The goal of creating a world that aspires to achieving peace across nations and religions is a noble aspiration worthy of our best efforts, individually and collectively. It is good that this conference has committed itself to that goal.
Everyone wants to live in peace. Every child should be born in peace. Peace is our birthright. But peace does not exist anymore.
The Latin America Summit 2018 is a great and golden opportunity.
It is good that we come together, not only as people of faith but more so as responsible global citizens of this beautiful planet earth, to discuss such important issues as peace, interdependence, mutual prosperity and universally shared values, pertaining to the well-being and welfare of humankind.
When we launched IAPP in the United States, Dr. Moon spoke to the United States Congress and she offered an important challenge to those who represent the citizens of their districts. She acknowledged that the critical problems we all face in our countries and throughout the world could not be solved with human means alone. Dr. Moon was clear that we must seek God’s help and work together beyond boundaries for the highest purposes.
We need to preserve and save our beautiful planet, which God, the original owner, created.
Parliamentarians as representatives of the people have a critical role to perform in the quest for universal peace and human development. It is therefore my sincerest wish that the drive toward world peace is stepped up in this region. We need to create one homogeneous, egalitarian society. We need to remove those prejudices which tend to divide us. It is only when this happens that the precept of world peace will stand a chance of succeeding.
As political leaders we must contemplate all aspects of our societies. We must guide and protect the underprivileged, animals and the environment. We must govern the strong and the powerful as justly as the weak and the underprivileged. So too, we must fight for equality of gender and race, for protection of copyright as much as for the protection of human rights.
Peace is a universal value. Every citizen; every religious, social and community leader; every Christian; every activist; and everyone in his or her domain and sphere of action must work for peace. That's what gives peace its universal dimension.
