Youth and Service
The long-awaited Spring Week of Goodness was launched in Russia on April 20, 2013 with volunteers cleaning streets and parks, planting trees, giving charity concerts, assisting children and war veterans, and taking part in sports activities.
On behalf of UPF founder Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and all the UPF Ambassadors for Peace, UPF international would like to extend our condolences for the Chinese people who have suffered from the April 20, 2013, earthquake in Ya-an City, Sichuan Province. We pray that the dead may rest in peace, that the injured may recover their health, and the bereaved will be comforted.
Multan, Pakistan - A Religious Youth Project in Multan, Pakistan, March 18-23, 2013, included cross-cultural experiences, an international peace conference, planting trees in various religious institutions and visits to historic sites.
Ufa, Russia - A religious Youth Service project in Ufa during World Interfaith Harmony Week, Feb. 1-5, 2013, brought together young people of different faiths to promote interreligious tolerance and encourage cooperation for peace in this Ural Mountain region.
Moscow, Russia - As part of a beauty contest of character and lifestyle, "Mr. and Miss University Pageant," a volunteer project was held at boarding school № 105 on January 24.
Religious Youth Service Resources for Organizers
UPF-Europe has sent five shipments (three by sea and two by air) of medical supplies for a North Korean children's hospital donated by Germany, Spain, and Norway. The project in support of UPF's North East Asia Peace Initiative was facilitated by the North Korean Red Cross.
Religious Youth Service Projects in 2012
Kavre, Nepal - Nine Russians participated in the Religious Youth Service project "Creating friendship through interreligious volunteering" that took place in Nepal Dec. 2-9, 2012.
Kavre, Nepal - UPF-Nepal organized a Religious Youth Service project that included renovating an orphanage and building a wall at a Buddhist monastery in Kavre, central Nepal, December 1 through 8.
Moscow, Russia - On International Volunteer Day, Dec. 5, 2012, an online roundtable brought together volunteer organizers from Russia, Austria and Israel to discuss future joint projects.
Under the slogan "Let's say together: 'Thank you!'" UPF-Argentina commemorated International Volunteer Day at the Peace Embassy in Buenos Aires on December 5. This date was set by the UN on December 17, 1985 to "raise greater awareness of the important contribution of volunteers, thus encouraging more people in all social conditions to offer their services as volunteers."
