Dushanbe, Tajikistan - The public organization "Refugees’ Children and Vulnerable Citizens" and UPF hosted a meeting on October 25 during the visit to Dushanbe of Danielle Mane, mother of Karine Mane, a volunteer with the international humanitarian organization "Doctors without Borders" who was killed during the civil war in Tajikistan in 1997.
Pokrovskoye, Russia - On October 23, another in the series of volunteer initiatives in the Urals, "City Supports Village: Pokrovskoye," took place. Multilateral cooperation, volunteer service, cultural programs, and interaction among the generations are main features of the initiative; all these elements were present that Saturday.
Moscow, Russia - The National Council of Youth and Children's Associations of Russia, with support of the Russian Federation Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs, held a meeting in Moscow of youth leaders to promote cooperation among youth in the Barents Sea region October 15-17.
Bern, Switzerland - Former Swiss Federal President and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Hon. Mr. Adolf Ogi, joined the ranks of the Universal Peace Federation's Ambassadors for Peace at a gathering in Fraubrunnen.
Pokhara, Nepal - About 30 dynamic youth representing different faiths attended this year’s project at the Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Ven. Kalsang Lama, one of the most revered spiritual leaders in Nepal. Service activities included painting the wall around the peace prayer wheel, and digging out an area for the wall around the monastery.
As part of the worldwide celebrations of the International Day of Peace 2010, the Universal Peace Federation designed a one-day Sports for Peace program that integrates sports and education in order to promote peaceful communities. Several UPF chapters organized athletic tournaments as part of their celebrations of the International Day of Peace.
Chennai, India - The Universal Peace Federation and Religious Youth Service, in association with the Federation of Gandhian Institutions, commemorated the International Day of Peace in Chennai, India on September 21, 2010. Interreligious prayers for world peace, nonviolence and ceasefire, and a candlelight vigil marked this occasion.
Anzio and Aprilia, Italy - Two UPF medical clinics will open in Italy to serve immigrants and low-income Italians: a smaller one in Aprilia and a bigger one in Anzio.
Dushanbe, Tajikistan - Ambassadors for Peace visited a residence for elderly veterans Sept. 5, 2010, to present a program of music, distribute personal gifts, and give cows and she-goats.
