Nepal Conference Discusses Challenges, Opportunities for Korean Reunification

Kathmandu, Nepal—UPF and the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) in Nepal organized a conference on the "Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula and World Peace: Challenges and Opportunities" on January 25, 2021 at the Kathmandu Marriott Hotel with 106 participants, including six parliamentarians, in attendance.
In his remarks, the chief guest of the program, former vice president of Nepal, H.E. Parmanand Jha, expressed his gratitude to be a part of the conference. He continued saying that he wishes to see the Korean peninsula reunified in the days ahead, and praised the efforts of UPF’s founders Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Jan Moon towards this.
The program's chairperson, Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal, a former minister of the government of Nepal, and chairman of UPF- and IAPP-Asia Pacific, underscored the importance of the reunification of the two Koreas for the establishment of peace throughout the world. He also highlighted the newly established UPF “Think Tank 2022” and the need to foster partnerships to create a better society.
The distinguished guest, former ambassador of Nepal to France, Mr. Mohan Krishna Shrestha, opined that we have to wait and see a unified Korean peninsula and expressed his optimism that with the efforts of peace-minded stakeholders like UPF, there is always a hope for peaceful reunification.
Former ambassador of Nepal to the United States, Mr. Shankar Pd. Sharma, talked about the economic benefits of reunification and said that when the two Koreas unify, Korea will be one of the largest economic powers in the world. He praised UPF for its efforts to support reunification of the peninsula.
Deputy Secretary General of the Asian Regional Institute of Juche Idea, Mr. Subash Kaji Shrestha, added that the reunification of the peninsula would provide a road map for peace to all nations and advance peace in the world.
Also during the program, the director of UPF-South Asia, Mr. Santosh Kumar Paudel, presented a brief overview of UPF’s activities worldwide.
