Seoul, Korea—UPF-Korea hosted the Fifth Peace Forum for a Heavenly Unified Korea on October 15, 2021 with its Daejeon and Chungcheon chapters. Dr. Young-ho Yun, secretary general of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification International headquarters, welcomed the participants on behalf of UPF co-founder Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon.
In his remarks, former U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Newt Gingrich called on everyone to work towards peace on the Korean Peninsula. “Our goal is not to win the next Korean War. Our goal is to avoid ever having another Korean War. That means that we have to really engage directly in finding ways to reach out. (We are better off) because Mother Moon has reached out to get delegations to sit down, to be there, and to talk with the North Korean government.”
Dr. Sung-bae Jin, director of the Hyo Jeong Academy of Arts and Sciences Foundation, explained that UPF’s guiding principles of interdependence, mutual prosperity and universal values provide the best roadmap for the peaceful reunification of the peninsula.
In addition, members of Youth and Students for Peace (YSP) International performed entertainment and dance, and speakers from Daejeon and Chungcheon gave updates on inter-Korean relations, the regional perspective as well as prospects for Korean reunification. Among the speakers were Mr. Jo Seong Su, vice president of UPF-Korea’s Daejeon and Chungcheon chapters; Mr. Jo Eung Tae, head of the International Association of Academicians for Peace (IAAP) in Chungcheonnamdo; and Mr. Yoo Gyeong Duk, chair of Think Tank 2022 in Daejeon and Chungcheon.
UPF-Korea plans to continue the Peace Forums as a platform for experts to dialogue, share ideas and work together.
