Lisbon, Portugal—The president of UPF-Portugal, meeting the ambassador from Angola, introduced UPF and its Ambassador for Peace program.
The meeting with H.E. Carlos Alberto Saraiva de Carvalho Fonseca took place at the Embassy of Angola on December 5, 2022.
UPF had been contacted by the former national leader of the Tocoist Church (Church of Jesus Christ in the World) in Portugal, Rev. Simão Vemba, who is now the leader of the church in Europe, for an audience with the ambassador.
During the meeting with the Angolan ambassador and his first secretary, Dr. Sérgio Vieira, the president of UPF-Portugal, introduced Rev. Vemba as a UPF Ambassador for Peace who had been appointed in July 2021 at the inauguration of UPF’s Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD).
Dr. Vieira explained to the ambassador the significance of this appointment and read the content of the certificate, signed by Father and Mother Moon.
He highlighted the important role played by Rev. Vemba in the Tocoist Church of Portugal. He described the great friendship and partnership of UPF with the Tocoist Church not only in Portugal but also in Angola and with Bishop Afonso Nunes, the highest leader of the Tocoist Church in both Lusophone countries.
Dr. Vieira briefly described the various projects of UPF International in all areas of society, under the motto “Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values."
He presented the ambassador with some information about UPF’s Character Education project in Portugal and with connections to the Lusophone nations, namely Angola. He then requested the ambassador's support so that this significant project to solve several social and youth problems can be well received by the Angolan diaspora in Portugal and also in Angola through UPF-Angola and the partnerships that are being established.
Dr. Vieira presented the ambassador with the autobiographies of Father and Mother Moon, pointing out that, just as it happened in São Tomé, UPF would very much like to have the support of the Angolan government in an eventual African Summit.
