Consultation in Rome on a Proposed Interreligious Council at the UN

A consultation about the proposed interreligious council at the UN on Sept. 11, 2010 was called to remind people how important is to implement a new culture of peace to prevent such a terrible day for all mankind from happening again.

About 40 people assembled, representing the main religious groups in Italy, politicians, professors, and NGO representatives. It was meant to be a small meeting for Ambassadors for Peace but they brought additional people. The mayor came and expressed warm greetings. He is young but heads one the six largest metropolitan areas in Europe.

A chaplain in the State Police who came to know UPF first through the magazine “Voices of Peace” was enthusiastic about the environment and the topic of discussion. He called the following day, expressing his gratitude for conference and his determination to support us actively.

UPF introduced its accomplishments and projects, including the new UPF Medical Center, a five-story clinic that an Ambassador for Peace is operating in the name of UPF to serve immigrants and people in need. For more information click here.

The consultation with a reading of the speech in which UPF Founder Rev. Sun Myung Moon first proposed an interreligious council. At the end ten new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed and invited to play active roles in carrying out these initiatives.

In conclusion, a meeting that was intended as a briefing for people familiar with our projects turned out to be one of the most promising meetings in the  history of UPF-Italy. A woman who came for the first time was so fascinated by the idea of an interreligious council at the UN what she wants to help promote it.
