Bangkok, Thailand - The proposal to establish an interreligious peace council in Thailand received a positive response from the Office of National Buddhism.

On April 19, a delegation from UPF-Thailand met with the Director of the Office of National Buddhism to discuss the proposal for establishing an interreligious peace council in Thailand. Mr. Nopparat Benjawattananant is director of the office, which is under the Office of the Prime Minister. Also present at the consultation was Dr. Amnaj Buasiri, Director of the Secretariat of the Sangha Association of Thailand, the organization that governs all the temples and monks in Thailand.

Dr. Lek Thaveetermsakul, Secretary General of UPF-Thailand, presented to them a report book about UPF activities worldwide in support of the World Interfaith Harmony Week 2011. The officials were delighted to see a report of the conference in Bangkok included in the book.
