Seminar in St. Petersburg on Interreligious Understanding

St. Petersburg, Russia - An Ambassadors for Peace seminar on the theme of “St. Petersburg – City of Interreligious Harmony" took place at the House of Writers in Komarovo, a picturesque suburb of St. Petersburg, on October 20. It was the third program this year promoting interreligious understanding as part of the Baltic Dialogue Initiative in Russia and Estonia.

In the beginning, participants were shown two videos reporting about previous parts of the program: the Religious Youth Service projects in Komarovo in January and Estonia in August. Then, the senior research assistant of the Religious History Museum, Sergei Podlesny, addressed the audience. He spoke about the history of the different religious groups in St. Petersburg, their formation, development, and interrelations. Then, a Professor at the Culture and Art University, Lydia Verb, spoke on “The Influence of Orthodoxy in Strengthening Families.”

The initiator of the seminar, Tatyana Krasnosumova, reminded the participants about the two Religious Youth Service projects, and Denis Pigasov, one of the participants, reported on the event “The Family Parlor,” which received a prize from UPF for their achievements in the form of an advanced printer.

The meeting ended with music, beginning with a short concert by students from the Children’s Academy of Peace. The ensemble “White Crane” under the guidance of Evgeny Lyskov performed a number of musical compositions on guitar, accordions, and keyboards. Singers from the ensemble “Tempus Mecum” of the “Galaxy” choral studio under the guidance of Yulia Kovrigina performed some folk songs a capella.

Before departure, all participants were treated to a tasty lunch prepared by the cooks of the House of Writers.

Having acquired new information and inspiration, participants returned to St. Petersburg on the same comfortable bus that took them to the seminar.
