New York, United States—During his recent visit to the United States, Pope Francis spoke at a joint session of the US Congress, and at the United Nations (Read the Pope's statement at the United Nations). In addition, he led an interfaith service at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York on September 25, 2015.
Approximately 500 religious leaders from all faiths and leaders of faith-based organizations were invited to the service, including UPF, represented by UPF president, Dr. Thomas Walsh. Pope Francis spoke out against terrorism and extremism as well as spoke of the need and the value of interreligious dialogue and cooperation; prayed for the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks; and viewed the exhibitions in the museum.
