Tel Aviv, Israel—Members of UPF-Israel’s Jerusalem Interfaith Forum for Understanding and Cooperation Among Religions participated in an interfaith day held at the Levinsky College of Education in Tel Aviv on May 14, 2017. The one-day program was organized by Jerusalem Interfaith Forum senior members Dr. Ohr Margalit, head of Levinsky College’s department of Jewish theology, and Sheik Dr. Omar Kayal, national inspector in the Religious Communities Department of the Interior Ministry.
Jerusalem Interfaith Forum members Rabbinith Esther Bar-Dea and Rabbi Yaakov Luft, and Ambassadors for Peace Rev. Masoud Abu-Hatoum and Sheik Jaber Mansur participated in interfaith discussions with scholars and students that took place in a general hall and, later, in smaller groups.
The event concluded with the planting of an olive tree and placing on it a sign that reads, “The tree of tolerance.”
The two organizers, Dr. Margalit and Dr. Kayal, first met at a Jerusalem Interfaith Forum meeting in 2015, and have since initiated several interfaith projects together.
