Vienna, Austria—An interfaith roundtable was held in the office of UPF's Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) to discuss the Oriental Orthodox churches, especially the Syrian Orthodox Church.
The main speaker at the meeting on November 28, 2018, was Dr. Emanuel Aydin, the chorbishop of the Syrian Orthodox Church in Austria. He spoke in detail about the origins of the Oriental Orthodox churches, how the different divisions came about, and how ecumenical dialogue can reconcile many differences and misunderstandings.
Dr. Aydin described as very fruitful the work of the ecumenical foundation Pro Oriente in the dialogue between the Catholic Church and the churches in the East.
At the end, he expressed his gratitude for the support of the Oriental Christian churches and their members from the Catholic Church and the country of Austria.
The audience followed his comments with great interest, which was evident in the many questions after the lecture.
