Dhaka, Bangladesh - UPF-Bangladesh and the Women’s Federation for World Peace-Bangladesh jointly organized a Parents' Day Seminar entitled “Parenting with Love and Authority” on July 28 in Dhaka. The seminar was attended by about 80 educators, social workers, NGO representatives, and parents.
After welcoming remarks by Mrs. Zeenat Ara Bhuiyan, president of the Women's Federation for World Peace-Bangladesh, three distinguished women were given the Parents' Day Award 2011 for their contribution to the society and family. As the main speaker, Prof. Golam Rahman, a UPF Ambassador for Peace from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of the University of Dhaka, spoke about parental love and gave many examples.
As the chief guest, Ms. Salma Khan, former Chair of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women, stated that the most powerful human bond is the parent-child relationship and true equality between both sexes is a condition of healthy parenting.
The seminar recognized and promoted parenting as a central vocation for families and communities. A television reporter covered the program, which was broadcast on the night news.
This was the 15th annual Parents' Day seminar in Bangladesh.
