The content of the conference focused on public-mindedness, marriage, and family values.
Among the 28 participants from six Asian nations—Nepal, Indonesia, Cambodia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Philippines—were religious leaders; representatives of the Ministry of Social Affairs, the military; universities, and NGOs, including the largest Muslim women’s organization in Indonesia; journalists; and students.
At the opening session, Dr. Chung Sik Yong, chair of UPF-Asia; Dr. Robert Kittel, education director of UPF-Asia; and Mr. Pasit Sirimalai, deputy secretary general of UPF-Thailand, spoke on the conference theme. During the question and answer sessions, the participants eagerly asked questions.
The closing session began with prayers offered by representatives of the Buddhist, Muslim, and Christian faiths. Two youth representatives then led the recitation of the Pure Love Pledge, in which they promised to remain abstinent until and keep fidelity within marriage. Dr. Kittel and Mrs. Ursula McLackland, secretary general of UPF-Asia, then presented certificates to the participants.
