New York, United States—UPF was one of the organizers of a book table at the United Nations which promoted the family as fundamental for social development.
The book table was set up during the 56th Commission for Social Development (CSocD), which took place at the UN from January 29 to February 7, 2018, offering high-level discussion and multiple programs to explore sustainable social development in the world.
The table displayed copies of the books Family Capital and the SDGs: Implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and The Family and the MDGs: Using Family Capital to Achieve the 8 Millennium Development Goals. It also provided links to digital copies of the books.
Both books give strong arguments and examples of how the family unit functions as an irreplaceable resource for solving pressing problems and building societal well-being, family by family.
The International Organization for the Family (also named Howard Center for Family, Religion, and Society) was the main sponsoring NGO, represented by Susan Roylance, who is the editor of both books. Author Vincenzina Santoro (American Family Association of New York), Angela Fallentine (IOF), and author Lynn Walsh (UPF) also staffed the table.
The table was active for three full days, January 31 through February 2, receiving much attention from ambassadors, delegates, and NGO representatives, and facilitating valuable conversation on the importance of family capital.
