Ketermaya, Lebanon—On the occasion of the holy feast of Eid al-Adha, the second of two major holidays in Islam celebrated worldwide each year, UPF organized a Family Festival in a refugee camp in Ketermaya, Lebanon.
Through a generous donation from the German chapter of the International Relief Friendship Foundation (IRFF), a humanitarian relief NGO, UPF could provide lamb meat for a barbeque, as well as other food, including watermelon.
Forty-five boxes of nori seaweed were also donated to the refugee families. The donation, which was made by Mr. Park, were delivered by trucks to the camp. The refugee families were delighted to receive the nori.
Twenty volunteers from Lebanon and four from Japan, as well as students from various countries, including Canada; Germany; the Netherlands; and the UK, helped with the festival.
In addition to featuring a barbeque, the festival had an entertainment program. A Japanese dance was performed, and the entertainment concluded with Lebanese music and the performance of a traditional Dabke dance.
