Paris Forum Considers Risks Linked to Reproductive Technologies

France-2018-10-20-Family Experts Warn about Fatherless Procreation

Paris, France—Family advocates discussed the dangers to family and society of a law that would make medically assisted procreation easier.

The French government’s proposed revision of the law on bioethics has caused great controversy.

In order to heighten awareness on this issue, UPF organized a program on October 20, 2018, together with affiliated organizations Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP), Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU), and Families and Values Orsay-Les Ulis (FAVORLU).

One of the guest speakers was Mrs. Agnès Ferrandon, a lawyer specializing in health law, who explained the juridical implications of the projected adoption of medically assisted procreation for all women. An inevitable consequence of the law would be the same rights for homosexual couples (men) and surrogate mothership, she said. Even if the general public and experts had been consulted, the government seems to have made the decision way beforehand to pass the law, she said.

Mr. Philipp Oswald, a Christian journalist and author, spoke on the topic of a fatherless society. The crises of fatherhood are the consequence of the crises of manhood and of masculinity in general, he said. Children who do not know their father and grow up fatherless will suffer greatly in the future, he said, and with them the society as a whole will be shaken to its very foundation.

Both speakers encouraged the approximately 50 participants to do their best to establish a harmonious partnership in their own marriage and take good care of their children, despite the almost almighty influences of the media and Internet.

Mr. Oswald, a father of seven and grandfather of 21, said that any ideology can gain ground only if people apply it in their everyday lives. Our resistance to the forcefully willed changes will be very effective, he said. We also could address our local parliamentarians and senatorial representatives and tell them in our own words that we do not agree with the projected amendments to this law, he said.

All in attendance were grateful for the good explanations on the issues.
