To mark the International Day of Families and create awareness of the importance of families, UPF-Seychelles organized a half-day conference on June 6. It was attended by Ambassadors for Peace and other people.
The welcoming address focused on the situation of the family today and how families are affected by drug abuse, divorce, AIDS, and domestic violence among many other social ills.
The selected theme was “A Strong Solid Family, Pillar of a Strong Society.” Those who attended were very interested in the topics covered, which included the following:
- The Purpose of the Universal Peace Federation, by Mr. Louis Betioux
- Marriage and Family, by a couple who has been married for 40 years
- The Foundation of a Godly Family, by Abel Ntep, a young man who recently graduated from the School of Theology. He made a great impression on the participants and received much applause. He is interested in assisting UPF in working with the youth.
- A film based on the presentation made by Rev. Rangala when he came to Seychelles.
- Review of UPF’s work in Seychelles, by Committee member Achille Luc. He also informed the participants about work being done with the young people, including the initial stage of a character education program.
The conference ended with a presentation of certificates to three youths who were ready to become Ambassadors for Peace. They are already involved in the youth program.
A group photo was taken of participants at the close of the conference.
The next activity for the year is a Youth Holiday Camp during August school holiday. The highlight will be teaching about character education and learning to live together peacefully.
A Sport Festival Day for Peace is planned for September. The youth are especially interested in this idea.
