Peru—More than 30 new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed during the forum for the UN International Mother Earth Day, held Friday, April 21st, 2022 in the auditorium of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, Alberto Andrade Carmona. The meeting was sponsored by Universal Peace Federation Peru branch and the office of the Congressman of the Republic and Ambassador for Peace, Engr. Carlos Zeballos Madariaga.
The forum brought together outstanding Ambassadors for Peace and leaders who shared their thoughts and experiences with the audience related with this important date in the framework of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Likewise, UPF-Peru president, Dr. Trevor Jones, virtually participating in the forum, made a call to action to all attendees:
Ecosystems support all life on Earth. The healthier our ecosystems are, the healthier the planet—and its people. Restoring our damaged ecosystems will help to end poverty, combat climate change and prevent mass extinction. But we will only succeed if everyone plays a part. For this International Mother Earth Day, let’s remind ourselves—more than ever—that we need a shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet.
Engr. Carlos Zeballos Madariaga introduced the panel and the guest of honor, Congressman of the Republic of Peru, Dr. José Alberto Arriola Tueros. Likewise, the secretary general of UPF-Peru, Mr. Jaime Fernández was present at the table of honor together with the president of the International Association of Academics for Peace (IAAP) Peru, Engr. Christian Contreras Otiniano; the biologist Marisa Ocrospoma Jara from the Office of Projects and Agreements of UNMSM Natural History Museum; and the president of the Civil Association Brigade of Pharmaceutical Chemicals of Peru, Dr. María Isabel Romaní Alcarraz (who read the message from the United Nations about UN International Mother Earth Day).
During the celebration, 34 new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed. Among them were district authorities, academics, religious leaders, businesspeople and civil society leaders, who ratified their commitment to promote peace initiatives and carry out social service work in favor of the most needy people. The installation of new Ambassadors for Peace ceremony was chaired by Mr. Jaime Fernández, secretary general of UPF-Peru and the Engr. Carlos Zeballos Madariaga.
The newly appointed ambassadors, Dr. América Odar Rosario, chaplain of Santa National University; Dr. Cristina Asunción Alzamora Rivero, chaplain of Federico Villareal National University; Dr. Mario Alcides Gálvez Galindo, dean of Lima’s Teachers Association; and Dr. Fernando Valverde Caman, chairman of the Centre of Human Rights and International Justice were invited to say a few congratulatory words.
Engr. Carlos Zeballos Madariaga awarded Dr. Trevor Jones, executive president of UPF-Peru, with a diploma of recognition and medal for the excellent organization of the forum. Likewise, a diploma of recognition and the autobiography of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, Mother of Peace, were also awarded to Engr. Carlos Zeballos Madariaga and congressman José Arriola Tueros by UPF-Peru.
