Argentina—The “Leadership, Values and Good Practices” Forum was the occasion for representatives of UPF-Argentina’s leadership areas to expound on these themes and present proposals for the work to be developed. The event took place on June 29, 2022, at CIDEC Space (Buenos Aires), and was broadcasted through UPF-Argentina’s YouTube channel.
The panel of experts were engineer Humberto Benedetto, Parlasur Parliamentarian and representative of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) in Argentina; professor Inderveer Kaur, representative of the Sikh Dharma Community in Argentina and representative of the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) in Argentina; journalist Adrián De Angelis, president of Argentina’s Christian Journalists Union (UPCAM) and representative of the International Media Association for Peace (IMAP) in Argentina.
Professor Julio Nardini, former dean and director of secondary schools, and representative of the International Association of Academicians for Peace (IAAP) in Argentina; Silvia Gabriela Vázquez, writer, director of the Social Responsibility Chair at Merchant Marine University, representing the area of the International Association of Arts and Culture for Peace (IAACP) in Argentina; and Dr. Jorge Tuero, economic analyst and expert in transcultural negotiation, representative of the International Association for Economic Development (IAED) in Argentina.
All these Ambassadors for Peace have an extensive career in their fields of activity; they were introduced at the first in-person Ambassadors for Peace meeting at Merchant Marine University (Buenos Aires) on May 11, 2022 (1). Such meetings set a work in progress to create initiatives and activities in each one of the areas, to create teams and achieve a joint effort in a new phase of participation, commitment and cooperation in UPF’s leadership (2) in order to address critical local and global issues. We have spent two decades empowering leaders with values and good practices in all areas globally through the Ambassadors for Peace initiative (3).
At the beginning, welcoming remarks were given by CIDEC’s host, professor Aníbal Gotelli, Ambassador for Peace and president of the Cultural Studies Interdisciplinary Center. He is nationally and internationally renowned in the area of training, organization, consulting and counseling in Ceremonial, Leadership and Institutional Relations.
“This globalized world needs to harmonize the values of ‘liberty, equality, fraternity,’ pondered in the West, with the rooted values of ‘filial piety, fidelity and loyalty’ from the East. Mainly today, in the so-called ‘Pacific Era,’ it is necessary to overcome old methods of ‘conquest, exploitation and corruption,’ which caused resentment and poverty. We seek to embrace good practices of service, education and cooperation, with fraternal, solidary spirit, considering humanity as one family and the planet as our common home,” was expressed by Rev. Dong Mo Shin, director of UPF-South America, in a brief recorded message.
After the presentations, there was a Q&A session ably moderated by Patricia Pitaluga, Ambassador for Peace and president of the Civil Association Acercando Naciones. At the end, Miguel Werner, president of UPF-Argentina, thanked the representatives and those who participated in the program and helped organize the forum. He weighed the shared values and good practices which set in motion the first stage of the “Argentina 2033” Project, which proposes the development of activities and initiatives in each area that address their respective fields of action, themes and experiences. From this, proposals and recommendations may arise for those who pursue public programs in 2023.
Professor Emanuel Sayavedra, UPF-Argentina’s secretary general, and journalist Luba Opeka, public relations for UPF-Argentina, warmly moderated each presentation and section of this UPF Forum. This event proposes to renew leadership in these times of critical social and global issues which call for a change from merely material values to universal values, in the search for tangible agreements and proposals to face such issues, under the principles of “Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values.”
It is worth noting that the “Argentina 2033” Project will include initiatives, programs and activities that will be implemented through different stages in the upcoming years. These can be enhanced with other ongoing projects from the various entities, either associated or complementary, such as the local proposal “Resilience and Good Practices for Development” and the “Leadership and Cooperation” and “Interreligious Dialogue and Good Practices” Training Series. Also, the global initiative Peace Road, which has been held in our country since 2015, this year, as in 2021, proposes to create activities in all 23 provinces, under the theme “Connecting Argentina through Peace.”
