St. Petersburg - Peace Council Reviews Activities of 2010

St. Petersburg, Russia - Ambassadors for Peace met in the central library of the Krasnoselsky district on December 23. The purpose of the meeting was tuned with our wish to see each other, listen to short reports about UPF activities in 2010, and also discuss plans and goals for 2011 and 2012. Denis Pigasov, the assistant of Tatyana Pigasova, youth leader of UPF-Eurasia, was the master of ceremonies.
At the beginning of the meeting, Denis talked about UPF founder Dr. Sun Myung Moon and his great vision of establishing world peace. He enumerated achievements of the UPF founder during his 90 years of life, including his many initiatives around the world. He introduced the Russian translation of his autobiography, As a Peace-Loving Global Citizen, in which Dr. Moon shares his rich personal experiences and talks about his vision of humankind as One Family Under God.
Participants discussed UPF's programs and goals in Eurasia, especially in the spheres of character education, family, and society. In other words, UPF will direct its activities at encouraging people to build strong families, contribute to their communities, and promote peace.
Of particular interest to Ambassadors for Peace in St. Petersburg are projects in the overall category of Baltic Dialogue. These include:
- Workshop on good citizenship
- The Light of the Christmas Star international festival and competition in Helsinki and Stockholm
- The "Guiding Star" training camp for Young Ambassadors for Peace
- The "Hyperborea" state youth program.
Another notable project in 2010 was the "My Tribe, My Family" competition among students in the Petrograd district. he competitors were very inspired by the project, and a family that traced its lineage back to 1604 was the winner.
The official part of the meeting ended with a speech by Victor Zuikov. The young man had decided to hold programs for parents and students in forms 6 through 12 in St. Petersburg on “The Truth about Drugs.” Victor came to the conclusion that the reason why children take illegal drugs is because they do not know the whole truth about the harm drugs do. In his lectures he reveals detailed information about the impact of drugs. During the past year, Victor gave lectures to 362 people.
